A week ago I discussed the ways not to get an iPhone in Vermont since we’re not covered by AT&T’s own network and in honor of the iPhone’s release. Now that people in other states have had their iPhones for a week, the in-depth reviews have been rolling in: Steven Frank’s, James Duncan Davidson’s, Steve Dekorte’s, and Jason Kottke’s are my pick o’ the litter.
There has been an an ongoing discussion regarding a better e-mail application for Mac OS X.
Well, the iPhone’s been out for 24 hours now and the initial reviews are in: it’s totally kick-ass and what the videos show is absolutely the real-deal.
Today’s the day everybody’s been waiting for! Yup, we’re little more that twelve hours away from the release of Apple’s new iPhone! Some are queueing up for them already, some will be ordering online, and others yet are prepping to rejoice over the impending flop.
Earlier this week, Simon Bell announced the version 1.1 release of his Newton Connection for Mac OS X app on the NewtonTalk mailing list.
I’ve released another minor update to my Sysmon StartupItem.
Note: The Twitter Statuses Badge has been discontinued due to changes in Twitter’s API.
[Note: Twitter stopped supporting IM connections, including Jabber, long ago so this post is no longer relevant. That said, it looks like Adium 1.4 will include Twitter support.]
Although already completely broke, I was so ecstatic to learn that Kid Koala will be at Higher Ground in South Burlington, VT, this coming Monday, April 23rd, that I slapped down my credit card for two tickets. Emily and I are especially excited that he’s stopping by Burlington for the last stop of his east coast shows and that we didn’t miss the opportunity to see him again.
It’s been exactly six months and a day since Textpattern 4.0.4 was released. I don’t know what took me so long, but I finally upgraded my installation this morning and it was perfectly smoothly, as always1.
I’ve updated my mta_digg_it Textpattern plug-in to v0.2 today.
On Monday, Victor Rehorst, list-dad for the NewtonTalk mailing list and founder of the United Network of Newton Archives announced that Grant Hutchinson would be taking over the roll of list-dad, ”... very very soon.” While he was at it, Victor stated that “Someone needs to take unna.org, now.”
I happened across the fact that Digg has implemented new ‘smart’ digg buttons on the 6th. The biggest new feature here is that you no longer have to first ‘submit’ an article to get its “digg url” to use with the “Digg This” buttons and can now just reference the article’s permalink instead.
It’s odd that I’ve done this seven months, to the day, since the initial release, but today I’ve released a minor update to my Sysmon StartupItem.
Update: Please don’t follow any instructions in this article as the APIs have changed somewhat. It’s still worth a read, but make changes as directed in the updated post instead.
I have quite a [messy] collection1 of Apple hardware and paraphernalia taking up much of my old bedroom at my parents house2 that I would love to still have available to show off and to play with occasionally. Some of the collection is actually scattered throughout the closets of our current apartment, but my Color Classic still sits out since I still tinker with it frequently.
Update: Wow, I’m really kicking myself right now!
The following is a rough post that I wrote on January 7th, but held of posting for a little spit and polish. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to clean it up last night (I was planning to do it somewhat Chandan-style and actually provide a little description of the technology behind it, including comparisons between iChat & Starfire). Well, with Steve Jobs’ announcement of the iPhone — which, honestly, I was extremely skeptical about — you can really see why I should really have just made it live. Doh!
Quick instructions for building OpenPBX RC2 (a VoIP PBX) on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and Tiger Server.
Simon Bell, developer of some excellent Newton software such as Mail V, has released a pre-beta of his previously-unannounced Newton Connection for Mac OS X software (or “NCX”, for short). It’s basically the Mac OS X functional (and visual, although modernized) equivalent of Apple’s Newton Connection Utilities which ran on Mac OS 9.x and earlier.
Note: This cookbook is based on building Asterisk 1.2.10 on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Server somewhere as of August 15th, 2006. It should work for Tiger client as well, but I definitely won’t guarantee it.
I wrote a quick Textpattern plug-in today to spit back a “URL title” for an article ID instead of the numerical “ID” that <txp:article_id />
does and called it mta_article_id. Basically it’s intended to be a replacement of article_id
.
When John Gruber mentioned Twitter a couple weeks ago, saying, ”[his] spidey sense says Twitter is going to be one of those ‘everyone’s using it’ big deals pretty soon,” I went straight over to twitter.com to see what it was all about.
For those members of my family that have been asking for my wish list this year, here it is:
I was quoted in yesterday’s The Times Argus editorial article titled Spam is no longer staying in the can by Rachel Feldman. The Times Argus is a small Vermont daily newspaper covering the Barre and Montpelier (the state capital) area.
